Food Tourism Can Help Bolster Malaysia's Tourism
Transformation Plan.
KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 14 (Bernama) -- "The Street and
Restaurant Food Festival: The Fabulous Food 1Malaysia" is a signature
event which has contributed significantly to better understanding of Malaysia's
rich and varied tourism product.
Tourism Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ng Yen Yen said the festival
was a celebration of the unique and diverse Malaysian culinary which aptly
conveys the rich cultural tapestry of Malaysia.
"Undeniably, food tourism is also a major component
that helps bolster the Malaysia Tourism Transformation Plan (MTTP) in achieving
the country's target of 36 million tourist arrivals and RM168 billion tourism
receipts by 2020.
"Our strength lies in promoting Malaysia's diverse and
exotic culture as well as unveiling an interesting potpourri of spicy, sweet,
and tangy flavours. The full spectrum of food offerings can help increase food
tourism revenue as well as attract more tourist to our shores," she said.
Her speech text was read by Tourism Ministry's Chief
Secretary-General, Datuk Ong Hong Peng at the launch of "The Street and
Restaurant Food Festival: The Fabulous 1Malaysia 2012" at Little India in
