Explore Johor to attract tourists.
JOHOR BARU: The state government has recorded 1.9 million
visitors as of January this year. Johor Tourism, Domestic Trade and Consumer
Affairs Committee chairman Datuk Hoo Seong Chang said the number was an
increase of 30 per cent as compared with RM1.5 million in the same period last
year.
"With the cooperation of all those involved in the
tourism sector, we are confident of having about 1.9 million visitors every
month until the end of the year," he said. He said this during the launch
of the Explore Johor programme at the Sutera Mall recently.
Hoo added that under the Explore Johor programme, the focus
would be given to three major components of tourism in the state, Johor icons,
attractive destinations, and local or international events. "Besides
these, good infrastructure, communication and excellent customer service are
crucial to attract tourists," he said.
He said that Explore Johor is in conjunction with the Visit
Malaysia Year 2014 announced by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak on Jan 19
at the Bukit Jalil National Stadium in Kuala Lumpur.
"Explore Johor will be carried out throughout the year
and one of our methods will be to introduce places of interest to the public as
well as to carry out tourism promotions in different states," he said. Hoo
said it would be a platform for the state government to woo more visitors.
