Tourism Ministry Targets 234,000 Hotel Rooms By 2020.

SEPANG (Bernama) - The Tourism Ministry is expecting an increase of 2,620 hotel rooms this year and is confident of achievings its target of 234,000 rooms by 2020, said its minister Datuk Seri Dr Ng Yen Yen.

"The total number of hotel rooms as of November 2012 was 180,037, and for new luxury four and five-star hotels the number was 4,016," she said at the launch of Sama-Sama KL International Airport Hotel here Thursday.

Formerly known as Pan Pacific KL International Airport, the hotel has been re-branded and boasts an enhanced five-star experience with newly furbished rooms aside from its new image.

Ng said transit hotels also played an important role to cater the increase demand involving transit passengers.

"Last year there were 7.9 million transit passengers, so we need more transit hotels to facilitate them," she said.
