Pulau Pinang

Pulau Pinang - Pearl of The Orient

The island of Pulau Pinang (Penang) derived its name from the betel nut trees (named 'Pinang' in Malay language) growing abundance at the island. Pulau Pinang is located on the northwest coast of Peninsular Malaysia by the Strait of Malacca. It is bordered by Kedah in the north and east, and Perak in the south.

The state comprises the Pulau Pinang Island and the mainland, linked by 13.5km Penang Bridge. Pulau Pinang is one of Malaysia's premier tourist destinations with well preserved historical sites, a cultural vibrancy blending the East and West, a food lover's heaven and long stretches of sandy beaches.

Recently Pulau Pinang has been acknowledged as one of the 'World Heritage Site' together with Melaka (Malacca). Penang has reputedly known to have the largest collection of 19th Century buildings in South East Asia.
