Yen Yen suggests KTMB set up tourism committee.

JOHOR BARU: Tourism Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ng Yen Yen proposed that Keretapi Tanah Melayu Berhad (KTMB) set up a tourism committee to promote interesting places and food, and open up the rural market. Such a committee could enable KTMB to come up with its own tourism products, in line with its role as a major public transport provider, she said.

"KTMB has a very big role but it needs a tourism committee which is in line with the business aspect of the sector," she said. She added that KTMB could upgrade its coaches, infrastructure at stations and introduce interesting rural destinations.

Speaking to reporters after opening the Fabulous Food 1Malaysia Street Food Festival in Taman Johor Jaya Friday night, she said, adding that the Ministry was prepared to assist KTMB in terms of promotion.

The festival saw 240 stalls stretched along Jalan Dedap 25, offering a great variety of food from the local multi-racial communities.

The three-day festival, is open from 12 noon to 11 pm daily and ends Sunday. - Bernama
